How many chickens do you believe it takes to supply the big demand for buffalo wings?

I mean, in the past ten to fifteen years, buffalo wings has become the most popular derivative from chickens. Since the bird only produces two wings, it seems they require an immence quantity of chickens just to satisfy this booming trend. What becomes of the rest of the parts from the chickens? Fertilizer? Anyone have an idea as to what amount of chickens need to go to market per year for their wings? Thanks.

  1. You mean buffalo's don't have wings?
  2. A whole lot, the rest is in Mcnuggets, and pet foods
  3. More chickens than I care to imagine. I remember when you could get a rather large bag of uncooked wing for under a dollar. These days, you pay 25 cents per cooked wing or more. "What becomes of the rest of the parts from the chickens?" There are a lot of people that don't eat just wings. Haven't you seen the different parts in the stores? They had to come from somewhere. Much of the left overs are ground up and used in things like chicken bologna, some are used in pre cooked frozen dinners. They use almost every part of the chicken just like they do with pig or beef. You know, "waste not want not".
  4. 8 billion chickens are slaughtered for food each year.
